Unattended and Disruptive Children Policy

Overbrook Public Library

Unattended Child Policy (approved 5/17/21)

The Overbrook Library welcomes use by children, and the staff will gladly assist them with the use of the library materials or services.

Young children (8 years old and younger) must be accompanied by a responsible adult or caregiver at the library to ensure their safety and comfort.

The caregiver must be 12 years old or older and have the authority and responsibility to care for the child by the child’s parent or guardian.

Children must be continually accompanied by their parent / caregiver unless attending a library program.

The library does not act in place of a parent, and library staff will not take responsibility for the child.

If an unattended child is brought to our attention, library staff will attempt to locate the parent in the library and inform them of this policy.

If a parent / caregiver cannot be located, the child may be asked to leave the library or the Overbrook Police may be asked to intervene.

Parents / caregivers / children in violation of this policy are subject to suspension of library privileges.
