Interlibrary loans are now available!

Good news! The library courier service is back up and running this week and you can now request items from other libraries via the library catalog at nextkansas.org.

If you’ve not been able to request items you want, or have been patiently waiting for your holds to be delivered, things should be moving through the system again.

Right now items on their way to the library will show as being “in transit” somewhat longer than normal due to incoming materials being quarantined for 3 days.

Summer Reading Begins Monday 6/1/2020

Our mostly-remote summer reading program begins Monday June 1st and runs through the end of July. Due to COVID-19, we will not be doing big in-person programs this summer. We will primarily be tracking reading and providing prizes for meeting reading goals. We’re shooting for 1200 minutes per reader from 3 years old – 8th grade over the duration of the program. This is approximately 20 minutes per day.

We will also have several take-home packs with an activity or craft kids can do at home. You can pick up 1 per child every other week starting June 15th – the end of July. We’ll post details about each pack on Facebook and the library website.

To register, you can come by during our curbside hours 12-6 M-F and pick up a registration form. Once you turn in your forms, we’ll hook you up with your packet of time-tracking logs / bookmarks / stickers / coloring sheets / etc.

For the first time this year we’re also doing online registration and time tracking via the Reader Zone app. If you want to join our summer reading group, download the Reader Zone app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and join group be060.

Our program packets / prizes are limited to kids from 3 years old – 8th grade, but if you’d like to join in on the fun as an adult, you are welcome to join our group and keep track of your reading this summer as well.

OPL Computer Use by Appointment Starts Monday, June 1st

Beginning June 1st, you can make appointments to use the computer or copiers for 30 minutes/day from 12pm-6pm M-F. We request that you wear a mask while in the library for your safety and the safety of the staff.

We are limiting the number of computers available to ensure 6 ft of separation and sanitizing computer keyboards / mice with disinfectant wipes between each appointment. Hand sanitizer will be available at each machine.

To make an appointment call us at 785-665-7266 or e-mail staff@overbrook.lib.ks.us

Curbside pickup / copy requests will continue to be available during this reopening phase. The library remains closed for browsing and the community room remains closed at this time.

Overbrook Library Board Monthly Meeting 5/18/20

The Overbrook Library Board will have their regularly scheduled monthly meeting Monday 5/18/20 at 6pm. This meeting will be held online via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83340702730 .

If you wish to address the board at the meeting please notify Library Director Kyle Sederstrom at least 1 hour prior to meeting time at ksederstrom@overbrook.lib.ks.us . The agenda is attached below

Curbside Pickup Available Now!

Request items for curbside pickup now! Call 785-665-7266 or login to your account at nextkansas.org to make your request. At this time our library courier service isn’t running so we are limited to only Overbrook Library items.

Library Curbside Service Begins 5/11/20

Overbrook Library is working to restore library services, while also trying to minimize the risk to our library patrons and staff. In order to meet this challenge, we will be implementing a phased reopening plan approved by the Library Board on 5/5/2020.

We will move into “Phase 2” and begin curbside delivery service of locally held library items with item pickup starting Monday, 5/11/20. Item pickup will be available M-F from 12-6 PM. To request an item or items, you can call the library and talk to us / leave a message at 785-665-7266, or login to your library catalog account at nextkansas.org any time. You can request items starting now for Monday pickup. The statewide courier will not resume normal service for several weeks, so at this time we are limited to local holds only.

If you need printing/copies/faxes you can e-mail the documents to staff@overbrook.lib.ks.us or bring a physical copy of the item you need copies of. We will not be charging for printing/copies < $1 in order to minimize cash handling.

During phase 2, no members of the public will be allowed into the library building. Item pickups / copying drop offs will take place by the entrance on the west side of the building, and you can either call the library at 785-665-7266 when you arrive or knock on the back door and someone will be out to help you.

All library items should be returned in the drop box on the west side of the building. We are not accepting any book donations at this time.

Moving from phase to phase of library operations will be a library board decision in line with recommendations from both library organizations (NEKLS, KLA, ALA) and local / state / national health agencies. In addition, we need to be able to obtain necessary staff protective equipment and cleaning supplies for disinfecting items, computers, and surfaces / door handles in later phases.

In accordance with state guidelines on large gatherings, the community room remains closed at this time.

Thanks for your understanding. We are looking forward to seeing you soon from a socially responsible distance.

We are currently discussing a phased reopening plan, beginning with curbside service for locally held library items in the near future.

I plan to post details of the plan once approved on our website and on facebook, and announce our date to begin curbside service and procedures for making requests.

Thank you for you patience as we work to restore service while ensuring the safety of staff and our patrons. I have attached the agenda for the library board meeting on Monday 5/4/20.
